Book a First ConsultWhether it's a rolled ankle, a sore knee, a niggling back or a shoulder that won't settle, injuries can stop you doing the things that matter. And when rehab stops as soon as the pain eases, they often come back.
At Habitual, our physiotherapists help you through the early stage of an injury, then our exercise physiologists take you from recovery to full strength, and help keep you injury-free for the long term. We also work with your GP or surgeon after an operation.

Exercise physiology
Leads your rehab from the subacute phase onwards: progressive strength work, return-to-sport and work training, prehab before surgery and long-term injury prevention.
Learn about exercise physiology →Physiotherapy
Your first stop for a new injury: assessment and diagnosis, hands-on treatment, pain relief and early rehab to get you moving safely.
Learn about physiotherapy →Nutrition
Practical eating to support healing and help you hold on to muscle while you're less active, plus support with body weight where it affects joint load.
Learn about nutrition →Acupuncture
A calm, restorative treatment that some people find helpful for easing pain and muscle tension during recovery.
Learn about acupuncture →From physio to EP, without the gaps
Pain usually settles well before strength, balance and confidence fully return, and that gap is one of the main reasons injuries come back. At Habitual, your physio and exercise physiologist share notes and plan the handover together, so your rehab keeps going until you're truly ready.
With your consent, we keep your GP or surgeon updated too, especially after an operation.
Why exercise physiology matters after the pain settles
Getting out of pain is only half the job. Exercise physiologists specialise in the stage that comes next: rebuilding full strength and capacity, getting you back to activity with confidence and helping you stay injury-free.
Rebuild strength fully
Progressive loading that restores strength and control, not just range of movement.
Measure, don't guess
Objective strength testing with VALD Dynamo lets us compare sides and track your progress.
Return with confidence
A staged return to sport, work and the activities you love, with clear milestones.
Prevent the next one
Ongoing training that targets your weak spots to lower your risk of re-injury.

How it works
Step 1: Book a first consult
For a new or recent injury, start with a physio. For an older injury, ongoing niggle or prevention program, start with an exercise physiologist. Not sure? Call us and we'll guide you.
Step 2: Get a clear diagnosis and plan
We assess your injury, explain what's going on in plain language and map out your recovery, including timeframes and goals.
Step 3: Rehab with the right practitioner
Your physio and exercise physiologist share your care as you move through each phase, so nothing falls through the gaps.
Step 4: Stay strong
Once you're back to full activity, a prevention program helps keep you there.
Frequently asked questions
Should I see a physio or an exercise physiologist?
For a new or recent injury, start with a physio for assessment, diagnosis and early treatment. Once things settle, an exercise physiologist takes over to rebuild strength and get you back to full activity. If you're unsure, call us and we'll help you decide.
What's the difference between the acute and subacute phase?
The acute phase is the first few days to weeks after an injury, when pain and swelling are usually at their highest. The subacute phase follows, as healing continues and the injured area can gradually handle more load.
My pain has gone. Do I still need rehab?
Often, yes. Pain usually settles before strength, balance and control fully return. Finishing your rehab helps you get back to full function and lowers your chance of re-injury.
Can exercise help before a knee or hip replacement?
Yes. Prehabilitation means building strength and fitness before surgery, which may help you recover more smoothly afterwards. We'll work alongside your surgeon's plan.
How long does injury rehab take?
It depends on the injury and your goals. Many soft tissue injuries improve over weeks to a few months, while rehab after a joint replacement or ACL reconstruction usually takes many months. We'll give you a realistic timeframe at your first consult.
Can you help prevent injuries if I'm not injured?
Yes. We can assess your strength and movement, find your weak spots and build a program around your sport, work or everyday life.
Do you work with my surgeon or GP?
Yes. With your consent, we keep your GP or surgeon updated and follow any post-surgery protocols they provide.
Do I need a referral, and can I claim a rebate?
You can book directly without a referral. Some services may be eligible for a Medicare rebate with a GP referral, and many private health extras policies cover physiotherapy and exercise physiology. Check with your GP and health fund for your exact entitlements.
